The Acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) has been reffered to as a superfood and marketer’s often give mistakenly give the impression that it has supernatural healing powers, is an amazing natural health food, contains all the nutrition for a healthy diet and has extraordinary health and healing benefits. But, what exactly are the health benefits of Acai berry?
Although science has yet to come up with a definitive answer the testimonials and recommendations of numerous consumers have been very positive as long as you’re not expecting the acai berries to magically make serious diseases vanish or excess weight to mysteriously melt away. Granted the Acai fruit hasn’t been studied for any lenght of time to really give definite answers.
But What Actually Are the Health Benefits of Acai?
Nothing really that can’t be found elsewhere. But, what makes the Acai fruit so prized for it’s health benefits and weight loss qualities is that it’s nutritionally dense with vitamins, nutrients and antioxidents and once for ounce it would be difficult to find a food that’s as good for health wise.
Cardiovascular disease and cholesterol are a popular topic these days because as we naturally age keeping them under control becomes more important. Acai is naturally abundant in nutrients, the essential fatty acids - omega 3 and omega 6, dietary fiber and antioxidents that help to combat these potential health and heart problems.
Research has shown that the essential omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids help to lower the bad cholesterol (LDL) while raising the good cholesterol (HDL). After decades of bad eating, family history, excess weight, etc., and the body naturally weakens with age, you could be at risk. Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids help to prevent this. It also helps the body to function normally and burn off excess fat better.
The Acai berry is also abundant in dietary fiber, which many people don’t eat enough of. The body doesn’t absorb fiber. It just passes through the body and is excreted as waste, but excess cholesterol, excess fats and toxins attach themselves to the fiber and is flushed from the body as well.
Because of the high antioxident content in the Acai berry juice it’s also being promoted as slowing the anti-aging process. The anthocyanins and flavonoids contained in Acai are powerful antioxidents. Oxygen free radical from everyday life and the foods we eat destroys cells and breaks down the immune system, antioxidents help to fight the deterioration caused by free radicals. Oxygen free radicals may also play a role in diminished brain function, Alzheimr’s, Parkinson’s and other disorders, by eating 5 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables may help to ward this off.
The Acai berry is often combined with weight loss supplements because the fatty acids (I know it sounds bad for you, but it’s not), fiber and antioxidents when combined with a sensible weight loss program will enhance and help your body to shed those extra pounds and lose weight.
Acai users claim increased energy levels, better sexual performance, a better digestive system, detoxification and cleansing of the body, improved skin appearance,a healthier heart, improved sleep, reduced cholesterol levels, etc., but like I said, if you’re expecting the “magic” pill, you’ll probably be disappointed. However, if you have realistic, sensible goals then Acai can help you achieve them by promoting and enhancing a healthy lifestyle.
Hey if it’s good enough to be endorsed by celebreties like Oprah Winfrey and Rachael Ray, then it’s good enough for me.
